Fear that comes from within is the voice of the body and soul, a signal of a real threat. Imposed fear is a virus that is planted in the mind to deprive you of will and make you obedient. It is important to be able to distinguish one from the other.
Fear itself is not the enemy. The enemy is fear that comes not from your depths, but from the words of others, from the news, from demands, rules, dogmas, and threats.
If you are afraid, ask yourself: is my body sensing danger, or has someone painted this picture for me? In the first case, take care of yourself. In the second, reclaim your right to decide for yourself.
A child who is afraid of the dark is experiencing an internal fear — they are learning to cope with it. A child who is afraid of being punished for a grade is experiencing an imposed fear — they are being controlled by it.
The same applies in adult life: it's one thing to be afraid of falling off a cliff, and quite another to be afraid of not living up to others' expectations.
